moreBehind Great Onofrio's Fountain lies the monastery of St. Klara, the best known and the most important of the eight monasteries for women in Dubrovnik (five of which were Benedictine, one was Dominican and two were the monasteries of Klarisas - Franciscan sisters). On 27th May 1806, when the French occupant army entered Dubrovnik, all monasteries were closed, and the monastery of St. Klara was turned into a stable and an ammunition warehouse.
